Wedding vows aboard before going on honeymoon
In the harbour of Hamburg: First three-mast sailing ship with special permission for marriage ceremony.
For many people who live in Hamburg a dream has come true. The traditional sailing ship MARE FRISIUM is the first of its kind in the city of Hamburg to have permission for wedding ceremonies aboard. For the first time you may have your wedding officiated on deck a historic three-mast sailing ship with a trip on the River Elbe afterwards. The ship has a length of 52 metres and provides room for 22-36 overnight guests or for 90 day guests.
It was not until now that the registry office has permitted wedding ceremonies aboard Nord Event’s “Windjammer” since the ship is sailing under the Dutch flag. Yet, public officials have been convinced of the beauty of it after a visit aboard. Only condition: During the ceremony the ship has to lie at anchor in the harbour of Hamburg. According to German law public officials have to be on German ground to join somebody in marriage. Afterwards you may say: Cast off!!! Of course, you may also stay in the harbour and enjoy the following festivities right there.
However, MARE FRISIUM is the only traditional three-mast sailing ship in the harbour of Hamburg with permission for marriage ceremonies aboard. In contrast to all the other big ships that are constantly lying at anchor one may always hoist the sails on MARE FRISIUM and cast off for a trip. Since the wedding guests charter the ship exclusively there is never going to be any chance of interruption by other visitors.
